A standard modern Tarot deck has 78 cards.

78 Tarot Cards= 22 Major Arcana+ 56 Minor Arcana

Major Arcana

Big life themes. These cards often point to major lessons, turning points, personal growth, important choices and larger patterns.

Examples: The Fool, The Lovers, Death, The Tower, The Star and The World.

Minor Arcana

Everyday situations. These cards describe feelings, thoughts, actions, work, choices, challenges and practical daily experiences.

This is where the suits, numbers and Court Cards live.

SECTION 2 · MINOR ARCANA STRUCTURE

The Minor Arcana has four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles.

Wandsalso called Batons or Staves in some decks

Cupsthe suit name is usually stable across decks

Swordsthe suit name is usually stable across decks

Pentaclesalso called Coins or Disks in some decks

Each suit has 14 cards: Ace to Ten, plus Page, Knight, Queen and King.

SECTION 3 · SUIT + NUMBER KICK-START

This is the learner’s first reading tool. You do not start by memorising 78 cards. You start by building meaning from two simple clues.

Suit+ Number= beginner meaning

Suit = life area

Wands = energy and action

Cups = feelings and relationships

Swords = thoughts and decisions

Pentacles = work, money, health and practical life

Number = story stage

Ace = beginning

Two = choice or balance

Three = growth

Four = structure

Five = challenge

Ten = completion
